Behavioral Activation(BA) has been noted as a cost-effective treatment and empirically supported therapy for depressive disorder. The purpose of the present study was to test the effectiveness of BA treatment for negative symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. BA group therapy was conducted for 10 participants with patients with schizophrenia. BA group therapy consists of 15 weakly treatment sessions that are generally 60-70 minutes each. Outcomes were measured using Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS), Clinical Assessment Interview for Negative Symptoms(CAINS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Motivation and Pleasure Scale-Self-Report(MAP-SP) and Behavioral Activation for Depression Scale(BADS). At post-treatment compared to pre-treatment, significant improvements occurred in negative symptoms(t=4.36, p<.001) and positive symptoms(t=2.70, p<.05) of schizophrenia and behavioral activation(t=-2.40, p<.05). Limitations of the current study and implication for future research were discussed.
